  1. Hi, I am hoping for some helpful advice. I have read the threads about paying off UK debts from overseas. Long story short we had to make the move over sooner than anticipated and it meant we couldn't clear a few bits in the UK as we had hoped. Add in the end of year tax credits recalculation which resulted in an over payment and we are left with a few K to clear. We have been managing by sending money home and we can continue to do so, but the reality is it is doing little more than covering the minimum payments- which we have calculated it would take about 10 years and about $70 K in interest to carry on that way. We were hoping to get a loan over here whilst the rate is stable (the $ vs GBP has made the current situation worse at the moment and in my opinion is only going to continue to do so) but after applying to NAB we have been told we can't secure a loan for overseas liabilities. Of course the idea of just walking away is appealing but having done our research we are not confident with that route and therefore we are doing the moral thing and continuing to pay. But it is very frustrating knowing it could end up costing us so much more in the long run. Has anyone any experience on getting a loan here to cover overseas commitment and if so how? The guy on the end of the phone alluded to the fact we could say that we were buying washing machines etc but wouldn't change the application purpose on the current application. We had to reapply. But we are concerned to put another application in and risk of them seeing through it and throwing it out or worse investigating fraud. This is doubly frustrating as we tried so hard to get this sorted in the UK and would have cleared it by now had they helped but all we hit was brick walls. We have credit cards over here but are unwilling to max them out to sort this as we use those for emergencies. Any experience welcome.

We have it badly too- we are in the dark corner of the block so get no natural sunlight and it is all over the ceilings and blinds. We bought damp rid and put it in each room and it's helping. We like you do all sorts of things like open windows, blinds etc. We are moving in a couple of weeks partly due to this and we have made sure we have a unit that faces the right way. I posted on the pio facebook forum and got told it is common. One thing that did come up is the lack of ventilation blocks in our unit- well certainly visible ones. I have viewed loads of places and they did all seem to have damp patches. Hope you get it sorted and that for my sake our move to a sunnier aspect is going to help!!
  3. I didn't lodge it in person but there is only on place and having been there with my husband it tells you where to go. it's at the op of the strand just at the end of Holborn
  4. can someone please amend my stats it keeps putting my grant date as 12/4 and won't calculate the processing time. think it's cos i'm on a tablet. thanks
  5. We were granted our visa this morning. subclass 100 :xmas24: took just over 5 months filed on 27 June. Not going anywhere just yet but hoping this helps with the job hunting
  6. i just spoke with my co. he said my visa should be ready to be finalised on the 4th. he asked whe the closing date for the job was which is the 5th ( got to wonder if i'd have said 4th whether it would have been ready earlier) i am a bit cobfusedtho as he said that when it's granted on the 4th it would be the 5th there. he mentioned 4 in tge mroning, but can't work out if he meant visa would be granted on the 5th at 4 am which seems odd orbat 4 pm here. who actualy does the final "yes" eith way not long to wait.
  7. looks like AB is grant happy lately lol. i chased saying it was close to guide pircessing times and i have a job i want to apply for so would be good to send proof or a guideline for time. normally he has come back first thing in the morning but nothing yet. guess maybe no news is good news..........unless he's off sick lol
  8. Fab stuff you filed the same day as me :-). Whose your co? Gonna chase mine now, what did you say? I am about to send a job app sp wondering if i can use that as an excuse as i asked if they had everything a few. Weeks back. Eeeek exciting. when are you going?
  9. They send originals back and then they send you a letter asking for medicals and police checks, etc as well as assigning you your co. They will let you know if they neec anything else
  10. just wondering if there is going to be a big gap between grants. i filed my visa on 27 june so just before time scale changed from 5-6 to 6-8 and now 8-9 months. currently its taking about 5.5 so going on that basis post 1 july would take about 7 months so what happens between decs grants for junes applications and feb when the juy ones shoud be granted.ni suspect in reality the july applications will be taking 6 months to grant
  11. for those waiting for a grant in dec, i emailed my case officer the other week to check he had everything. we filed on 27th june and he said he hopes to get it granted 'at the end of Dec (before 24th)' so hopefully that means all of June should be done before xmas. nice pressie hey ;-)
  12. Hi just had a letter with my case officer jc, she is leaving so we have been assigned kp. is she new or existing case officer? Anyoe else get the same thing? Hopefully be straight forward
  13. We have deffered our medical requests. We have asked for a long lead in time as we are in no rush to move. Howeve she said thatt it's not normal but would be willing to do it if we stick within their good practice guidelines. i.e they want to stick to processing times so we can't delay that. Therefore she has agreed to request after 3 months, and then we have 49 days to complete meaning we have in reality up to 4 1/2 months into the process to get them the medicals and pcs and they can still grant within the 5-6 month timeframe. We did this in our initial letter so whether they would do this now they have requested them I am unsure. It will make no difference to your grant date, so if you feel there may be an issue that may delay you then hold off a bit longer. If not then just get them out of the way
